The iconic Courtyard Café is cleaning up after a busy Mother’s Day breakfast while waiting for council to sign off on a new lease agreement.
In last month’s ordinary meeting of council, Tenterfield councillors debated reviewing and approving a new lease agreement with the Courtyard Café.
The café has been in operation since 2006 and, according the to tabled report, is an “integral component of the School of Arts” and provides reliable service for locals and visitors.
The current lease has now expired and council is finalising details on a $14,707 per year annual lease term.
Despite staff recommending that council enter into a lease with PS & JE Co Pty Ltd, councillors felt that they were lacking sufficient information to sign off.
One council member noted that there hasn’t been a market valuation done since 2024.
Mayor Bronwyn Petrie mentioned that SOATI, the organisation that is now operating the School of Arts has some concerns which Cr Gregory Purcell questioned.
Instead of agreeing to the proposed lease, councillors passed a motion to defer a decision “to enable further information to be obtained and included in a future report”.
