Now that Storm King Dam is at 100 percent capacity, Southern Downs Regional Council has lifted Low Level water restrictions of 150 litres per person per day "for properties connected to the reticulated water network in Stanthorpe," they advised on November 2.
This means that Permanent Drought Preparation levels of 200 litres per person, per day became effective last Monday.
"The easing of restrictions will see Stanthorpe return to permanent waterwise conservation measures under Council's Drought Management Plan, with residents encouraged to continue using water wisely," their media team circulated.
Mayor Melissa Hamilton again thanked residents for adherence to restriction levels. She further said that, "Any decisions regarding drought declarations will be made by the Queensland Government."
Speaking to the Town & Country Journal last weekend, Mayor Hamilton said she's "thinking of the residents who have the challenge of cleaning up after last week's floods".
"While we have some damage to roads and infrastructure, the relief this has given to farmers and having our town dams refilled has been a blessing.
"Travelling across the region over the last week, it's been wonderful to see the green growth and the change from just a few weeks ago."
SDRC and Tenterfield Shire Councils are collectively buoyed by the relief of risen dam levels.
