An annual event will become a major annual event thanks to a little help from the state government.

The Saddlers Mountain Bike Club have been awarded a $20,000 grant from the NSW government’s Regional Event Fund.

The Saddlers will use the cash to promote Gravel n Granite 2026, scheduled for May 16-17. This is the second year in a row the club has received funding for marketing and PR campaigns.

MP Janelle Saffin is pleased with the result, congratulating club president Michael Lieberman, Caitlin Reid, the organising committee and 70 volunteers “who made this year’s event such an outstanding success.”

“Gravel n Granite is one of Tenterfield’s premier regional events and makes a valuable contribution to the town and shire’s visitor economy.

This year, the event brought over 1,000 people, including 500 riders, to Tenterfield and contributed over $667,000 to the local economy.

“This event plays a vital role in supporting local tourism, hospitality, retail and accommodation providers, particularly as it is held outside of the traditional peak season.

There are three separate adventure rides – 38 kilometres, 66 kilometres and 91 kilometres – which start at the Tenterfield Showgrounds and follow Mount Lindesay Road and Black Stump Road into state forest and national park.
