Jetting from Dalveen to Canberra
Young local wins national competition

Australian PM Anthony Albanese might have had exceptionally important fuel-related business with National Cabinet last Monday, but there was time in his weekly schedule to meet with a "surprised" Dalveen young man.
Jett Jarvis had won a competition that asked, "If you were Prime Minister for a day, what would you do to make Australia better?" and as we were heading to the printing presses, Jett, a Year 7 student at SCOTS PGC College and his Mum, Amanda, were sky high, jetting to Canberra.
"I'm pretty surprised to have won," Jett told us of his video submission that was centred on food wastage.
"If I were Prime Minister for a day... I would educate people so they understand how much food is wasted every year because it doesn't look perfect.
"Imperfect food tastes exactly the same, it just looks a little different. If more people bought this food, farmers would be paid fairly and less food would be wasted."
Jett was inspired by a video watched about a year ago, and by his school encouraging entry in the competition. His parents, Amanda and Matt Jarvis said they are proud of his efforts. So too is Jett's sister, Harlow, who's in Year 4 at Dalveen State School.
Almost 500 students from around Australia sent video submissions to 'Squiz Kids', which is described as "Australia's number one daily news podcast for kids," answering the same question Jett did.
The PM's Courtyard welcomed him and Amanda on March 30 while the official presentation was the following day and included a tour of Parliament House, a visit to the Press Gallery and a spot on ABC News Breakfast.
We asked if his friends entered.... "No, they mostly forgot," Jett said.
Did he pack "something special" to wear to meet the PM? "Yes but the main thing is to tuck my shirt in."
