New day for tourism in Tenterfield
Tenterfield Information Centre news

After years in the making, Tenterfield has an Information Centre once more.
After the Tenterfield Shire Council were forced to close down the previous tourism information centre during COVID, grants, hard work and long negotiations have brought the centre back to life in the foyer of the Sire Henry Parkes School of Arts on Rouse Street.
Thanks to the natural beauty of the shire and the charm of its heritage buildings and colourful fall trees, tourism is an economic necessity for the region. Tenterfield Chamber of Commerce president Kathryn Davis and her crew of committed business owner members have put together an enchanting space with digital displays, flags, photography of the region, ambient music and “the friendliest volunteers”.
The centre “is set to welcome visitors to the shire and showcase all the experiences on offer within Tenterfield and surrounding villages,” Ms Davis said.
Mayor Bronwyn Petrie, Cr Peter Murphy, Cr Owen Bancroft, Cr Greg Purcell, Cr Kim Rhodes and GM Hein Basson and Allison Graham mingled with about 50 residents to enjoy the new premises and enjoy cake and tea at the grand opening last week.
Ms Davis thanked everyone for their support including Sue Walsh and Michele Grass from the chamber “who played key roles in the set up and operation of the centre” and she encouraged more volunteers to raise their hands to extend the centre’s opening hours.
Currently the Tenterfield Information Centre is open Thursday through Saturday from 10am to 2pm with hopes of longer hours in the near future.
In line with Tenterfield’s new brand ‘Experience Tenterfield’ Kat noted that Tenterfield is not just a place people visit, it’s a place people experience.
“Having a vibrant information centre for visitors to the Shire plays within that role.”
