Allora residents experienced an average of 55mm of rain last Saturday, January 17, and locals say the newly-installed round-about's drainage isn't up to the task.

"Different reports were that there was 35-to-65 millimeters in various areas of town," a resident, who's lived there since the 1980s, told our newspaper.

He's "disappointed" that what he considers to be issues with the drainage, impacts the town's passability.

"It's disappointing when upgrades such as the round-about are done but important things like drainage don't get upgraded as well," he continued.

"Local residents said (on the weekend) that water had never run under the church but it was six inches deep."

The resident pondered if the drains "need a good clean out".

We understand that the drain runs from the northern side of the road to the southern side of Warwick Street via a "diagonal drain" under the new round-about.

Our newspaper will continue to look into the issue.
