Member for Lismore Janelle Saffin says the NSW Government is closely monitoring fuel distribution, including over the Easter period, to manage any localised shortages, particularly in regional communities like Tenterfield Shire.

To support fuel distribution across the state, the NSW Government is:

  1. operating a Liquid Fuel and Energy Operations Centre to track fuel availability, forecast demand and coordinate fuel deliveries across NSW

  2. using legislative powers to require major fuel companies to provide information on fuel supply plans, particularly for regional NSW

  3. working closely with the Commonwealth Fuel Supply Taskforce Coordinator to manage emerging distribution issues

  4. prioritising fuel supply to regional NSW, particularly diesel for agriculture, freight, transport and essential services

  5. monitoring fuel availability across NSW using verified information and FuelCheck data to identify and respond quickly to localised outages

  6. increasing NSW Fair Trading compliance and enforcement activity to protect consumers from misleading fuel pricing and incorrect price reporting.

The new measures include relaxing load limits to allow for bigger and longer freight to travel on our road network, and removing curfews so trucks can travel, load and unload at night.

Longer trucks will use at least 18 per cent less diesel per ton of payload and can carry 33 per cent more additional freight.

MP Saffin urges residents to only buy the fuel needed as needed.

“And I urge all to be considerate of staff at the servo who are working hard to manage demand and supply.”
